Anonymous asked: I noticed you mostly do scenic paintings and i'm curious if you woud ever paint people.

Answer:

I love painting portraits and people. I will post some work soon. I have begun a series of painting portraits of some of my Tumblr followers and those I follow. I like the idea of a body of work arising from Tumblr, it’s such a creative space.

Anonymous asked: How did you come to find your style? And who are the artists that inspired you?

Answer:

I think I was slightly OCD art art school… I insisted on not looking at other artist’s work as much as possible with the express aim of finding my own style. I worked through an abstract expressionist stage for about 3 - 4 years, and reflecting on this now I see that helped me develop an acute sense of the surface of a painting. It also developed a love of paint, the thick textual, colourful, immediate properties of paint. Once out of art school I opened up to the influences of other artists and my immediate environment.

My subject influences are from my immediate surroundings of inner city Sydney, regular trips to New York and Melbourne.

Artists that I find inspiring in terms of both their work and practice include: Van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, Richard Diebenkorn, Frida Carlo, Peter Booth,Tracey Emin, The Group of Seven artists from Canada, The Heidelberg School, Odd Nerderum, Kevin Connor, Bill Henson, Nicholas Harding, Georgia O’Keeff, Author Boyd, Rachel Whiteread, Philip Guston, Lucian Freud and Xu Wang.
